Fresh Air Sculpture is a 3-week, biennial contemporary sculpture exhibition, held in the private riverside gardens of Quenington Old Rectory, Gloucestershire raising funds for the Quenington Sculpture Trust. The 2019 exhibition had 75 exhibitors showing some 160 works and over the 3 weeks we had over 10,000 visitors.

The Quenington Sculpture Trust is looking to appoint a freelance Curator for its 2022 show and then ongoing for subsequent biennial shows.

The role of Curator is to support the exhibition by searching for artists and makers whose work would animate a private outdoor space but also would be well made and affordable. The Curator will manage the planning, placing of works for the show, the day-to-day running of the show and any related administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate will have a background in the arts and an understanding of the administration behind an exhibition, along with experience of grant applications, budget management and reporting on progress. Candidates will also need excellent interpersonal skills and a talent for working collaboratively and flexibly as part of a small but dedicated team.

The 2022 show is our 2021 show, delayed due to Covid, so much is in place already, therefore the new Curator will concentrate on building relationships with exhibiting artists, organising the final photoshoot and siting pieces for the show. For future exhibitions, the work will be spread across a 20-month period with a peak during the build up to, over the exhibition and its dismantling.

This is a part-time, freelance position for which we pay a monthly fee of £750, which is doubled for the 2 months of the show.  Further details will be discussed with candidates during interviews.
