An open call for an exhibition of postcard sized work on the theme of plants.

OPEN CALL Postcard Exhibition – GROW

GROW will be a two week long exhibition at Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield. We are looking for 2-D postcard sized work (6x4 inches) on the theme of plants. Perhaps your inspired by the first shoots of spring, allotment life, urban weeds, petrol station bouquets, or botanical illustrations. Whatever inspires you, plants play a part in all of our lives.

Artists from all backgrounds are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of work each (one form per entry). It is free to apply with only successful artists paying a fee of £10 per piece of work included. Please bear in mind any financial implications should all your pieces be accepted.

The exhibition will run for 2 weeks, we are hoping to open on 10th March 2021 though this is dependent on coronavirus restrictions. If we cannot run the exhibition on these dates, we will reaggrange for another time later in the year. We will always keep you informed with any dvelopments. Any dates outlined below assume that the exhibition will go ahead on 10th March.

The submission deadline is at midnight on 9th February. Successful artists will be contacted by 13th February.

Work needs to arrive by 4th March at the latest, so please make sure you leave enough time for work to arrive. Successful artists should pay their fee by 20th February. Work should be posted along with a stamped, addressed envelope for the return postage of your work you after the exhibition.

Work must be 2D. Work should be postcard sized (strictly 6x4 inches), made on a postcard, or on paper, card, or thin lightweight board (no thicker than half a millimetre before the artwork is applied) and cut to size. Work should be sent with the Royal Mail ONLY, or dropped off in person on Friday 26th February. To find out more about why we can only accept work sent with the Royal Mail please get in touch.

The gallery is open Wednesdays – Saturdays.

Due to current Coronavirus restrictions there are currently no plans for a private view evening for this exhibition. If restrictions are changed prior to the exhibition opening we will review this situation.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Submit

Artists are invited to submit postcard sized (6x4 inches) 2D work. You are welcome to submit up to 3 pieces of work and successful works will each cost £10 if accepted.

Work must be unframed and made on a postcard, or on paper, card, or thin lightweight board (no thicker than half a millimetre before the artwork is applied) and cut to size.

Work should not have any hanging attachments, and we will hang work ourselves using low tack sticking strips, so please be aware that this will be attached to the back of your work and could potentially damage the back.

Please ensure that your name is written on the back of each piece of work.

Work must be complete at the time of submission.

Work can be offered for sale during the exhibition, and there is a commission charge of 1.69% to cover banking costs incurred by the gallery from sales.

Please include a stamped addressed envelope along with your work to allow for the return of your work. If you wish to have your work returned by another means of postage (e.g. recorded delivery) we charge a small handling fee on top of the cost of the postage.

All work must be complete at the time of submission, and must fit the dimensions specified. Any work which varies from the original piece submitted may be rejected. If you wish to submit a print, it will be your responsibility to print it off before posting it to us.

Thank you and good luck!

Michael and Sharon (The Fronteer Team)
