This studio space will allow an artist working in Hull who otherwise wouldn’t have access to a studio the space and time to expand their creative practice. The artist will be supported to show the outcomes of their residency at Humber Street Gallery in Space 2 in October 2026.

What is this opportunity? 
 
Between March and September 2026, Humber Street Gallery will be supporting one artist with 7 months cost-covered studio space at Juice Studios.  

This studio space will allow an artist working in Hull who otherwise wouldn’t have access to a studio the space and time to expand their creative practice.  

The artist will be supported to show the outcomes of their residency at Humber Street Gallery in Space 2 in October 2026. 

This residency forms part of Holding Space, a new programme of activity at Humber Street Gallery.

Who is this opportunity for? 

  • Artists who do not currently have access to studio space.
  • Artists who would benefit from working in a studio building alongside other artists. 
     

When applying, please take into consideration that this is a studio residency located in Hull, UK.  

If successful, you will be required to travel to the studio and be available in person for studio visits and related events.  

This opportunity is best suited to artists based in Hull and its surrounding areas, or artists able to travel to Hull regularly. There is no additional fund to cover travel expenses. 

We will work with the successful applicant to build an Access Rider to ensure that access to this opportunity is supported.

What do you get?

  • 7 months of cost-covered studio space in a vibrant studio building.*
  • £500 studio budget to support material costs and time.
  • £500 exhibition budget to support the production of work for an exhibition at Humber Street Gallery in October 2026.
  • A free year-long membership to Fruit Factory Guild, Humber Street Gallery’s network for artists, curators, cultural practitioners and creative thinkers.
  • *Dimensions of the studio: 2.6 x 2.3m. 
     

What are we asking of you?

  • To make use of the studio space at Juice Studios at least 16 hours a week.
  • To attend monthly studio visits with HSG staff (x3 hours).
  • To participate in Hull Open Studios 2026 on Saturday 2nd May.
  • To be available for an in-person public roundtable discussion event on Saturday 26th September.
  • To prepare a body of work for an exhibition at Humber Street Gallery in October 2026.
  • To be an active member of the Juice Studios community.
  • To be an active member of the Fruit Factory Guild community, by attending workshops, talks, visits, and other activity.

  • Free access to the print room (material costs are not included).

  • Communal kitchen/tea point.
  • Shared workspace.

  • Discount room hire for running workshops (free use for community events).

  • 10% off at Form Shop & Studio, including giclee printing.
  • Digital printing/photocopier available (from 5p a print).
  • Cleaners weekly (shared spaces/toilets).
