Immigrant Opera is a new immersive theatre show with an ethical mission - to help creative immigrants integrate into the UK cultural sector while raising awareness about the impact of totalitarianism on individuals and communities. Our aim is to build a platform for collaboration between local professionals and immigrant talent, where artists who were previously censored by authoritarian regimes can reclaim their voices, and audiences can gain first-hand insight into war and dictatorship through the human perspective.

Artist Call

We are currently holding an Artist Call, seeking artists who have experienced exile.

To take part in the upcoming Immigrant Opera showcase, we welcome proposals across many disciplines - visual art, music, costume design, acting, music, set and prompt design, and others - that explore how totalitarianism affects our humanity. Below are some examples of the topics:

  • Fragmentation of families and communities

  • Patriotic indoctrination

  • State-sponsored gaslighting and manipulation

  • Censorship and persecution of independent thought

  • Irony and hypocrisy in state propaganda

  • Dehumanisation and devaluation of life

  • Enforcement of rigid binary worldviews

  • Legislation used to suppress dissent

  • Ideological manipulation and control

This is a paid opportunity that will receive extensive coverage in international media, as well as many other potential benefits.

The fees and salaries will depend on the artist's position, but will be no less than the national living wage.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work at our show and potentially in a worldwide tour.

They will also connect with leading UK industry professionals, receive media coverage, and be compensated at industry-standard rates.

The location of the premier show will be a large industrial warehouse in London, with an expected audience capacity of 200 people.

We are currently in the negotiation stage, and the venue to be confirmed.

We are also in negotiations with the London Philharmonic, the Royal Opera House, and the Barbican to present the show further on their stages.

Creatives must be UK-based or have digital works and be eligible to work in the UK.
