Jack and Alice is looking for local artists to display work in a rotating exhibition space in our Gerrards Cross location, with an opportunity to sell their art and host an opening night for friends and family.

We can provide a small, but prominent wall in our restaurant, which is sat in a prime location right across from the station on the high street.

We are looking to showcase work in the 2D mediums of photography, drawing, collage, print-making, painting etc up to the size of 120x120cm, and smaller sculptural pieces that will fit on our shelving up to 44cm (L) x 27cm (W) x 32cm (H) - however there is more space around the restaurant to work with which we can discuss if suitable.

The piece/s will be exhibited for three weeks, during which the exhibiting artist will receive a specified time for friends and family to come view the work (during which they may use the whole restaurant space to set up anything else they’d like to display).

Please note Jack and Alice will take a 20% commission if the work sells (see FAQs). All submissions are free of charge.

What can I submit?

This is an unpaid exhibition; the artist retains full rights to their piece and must reclaim it if unsold after the display period is up. As a family-friendly, community-based business, any work submitted must align with the Jack and Alice ethos - therefore no work containing nudity, foul language, homophobia, sexism, racism or distressing themes will be considered.

We are especially interested in hearing from underrepresented members of our local community and are excited to be able to support artists at any point in their career.

We’re looking forward to seeing your submissions - Jack and Alice is more than just a wine bar and pantry, we are deeply rooted in our community and passionate about showcasing the work of local Buckinghamshire artists.

Use the form to submit your art by the 21st of May and we will be in touch about displaying your work. Please be aware that as there is limited space for the display of artwork, we will likely only have space for one artist at a time but if your piece is not selected there will hopefully be future opportunities for exhibition.

And as always, feel free to come in and meet us for a slice of cake and a chat if you’re in the area - thanks!

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
Artists at any point of their career based in Buckinghamshire - however, you will need to be able to travel to Jack and Alice in Gerrards Cross in order to install your work, and to attend the exhibition evening if you choose to do so.
When is the deadline?
21st May, 2023
How many works can I submit?
As many as you'd like! Bear in mind it is a small space, so whatever you submit will have to fit within that.
When do I need to collect my work?
Three weeks after the install date
How much does it cost?
It's free! However, if your work sells we will take a 20% commission - not as profit, this will go towards staff working later to help hang work, and will be used to help continue to run the exhibition space in the future.
Is there a private view / opening?
Yes! We will run a 'private view' on a Sunday evening, in which we will close to the public and you can invite friends and family. You are welcome to bring in as much work as you'd like to display around the restaurant, and if you'd like we can provide nibbles, wine and soft drinks at cost if you decide to do so, charging each visitor a small fee (solely to cover costs of food and drink - we will not make any profit from ticket prices), or we can keep our bar open as usual - this is open to discussion with the chosen artist.
Does the location have disabled access?
Yes, we have a wheelchair ramp and disabled toilets.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Social media posting to our 10.5k followers @jack_and_alice, posters around the restaurant and customer toilet walls with the artist name and statement - plus hundreds of customers come through our doors who will see the work displayed!
What are the selection criteria?
Suitability for the restaurant - the work doesn't have to go exactly with our decor, but we'd love something that works with the space, and fits the guidelines in the description.
Can you guarantee my artwork will be looked after in the space?
No, unfortunately we cannot guarantee the work will be 100% safe whilst it is up in the restaurant. We have a diligent team who will do their absolute best to make sure nothing happens to it, but it is a public space and not a gallery and accidents (rarely) CAN happen - therefore we suggest you get insurance if you need it, or don't submit anything particularly fragile, sentimental or precarious.
