Artist Open Call now open inviting artists to apply for the infamous Scars Of Gold II campaign. A major campaign bringing together the power of art for the purpose of health awareness, produced by the charity Mortal And Strong. Putting a spotlight on inequalities in health using art in a major campaign.

We are excited to announce the opening artist open call inviting artists to apply for our second Scars Of Gold campaign.

SCARS OF GOLD I was a major, never before done campaign bringing together art, photography, interviews and health awareness.

Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi to use gold to amplify the strength borne of scars seen and unseen - the campaign shared the Voices of 100 women facing their mortality at a young age.

The Voices were interviewed by charity founder Dr Liz Murray BCA(h)  and shared across our podcast, had their photography done by Creative Director and professional photographer.

Then artists from across the UK produced 100 artworks inspired by these Voices - the artworks across a range of mediums captured the essence of strength, life and what it means to find joy and hope.

The campaign was presented over 12 months on online platforms before culminating in a major 10 day exhibition alongside 5 days of health talks by industry leading professionals and panels of voices of lived experience.

The campaign captured over 160 health topics and gained international followers. Artworks were auctioned to fundraise for the charity and for artists to recover their costs.

Mortal And Strong is a uk charity, the first of its kind in providing centralised support and education for anyone facing any life changing health condition at a young age.

Our inaugral campaign was a huge success and we are excited to be returning at the start of 2026 with our second season.

SCARS OF GOLD II will again put a spotlight on health inequalities - but this time including any gender, any one affected, any health condition including carers.

Putting a spotlight on the impact of life changing health conditions at a young age - anyone affected. S

haring the stories of 100 people, powerful photography and again....100 ARTWORKS.

We are inviting you to apply to be an artist with our campaign.

As an artist of the campaign you will be invited to produce between 1-5 pieces in your own medium/style - inspired by key words or messages that arise during the interviews of the 100 Voices.

These artworks will form a key part of the campaign, and be exhibited in 2027 and auctioned to fundraise for the charity.

It is a unique opportunity, and unlikely like any exhibition process you have been part of. Every artist found the process for season 1 truly moving, inspirational and became part of a new community that is invaluable to the work we do with the charity.

Submitting examples of work is for reference of your style and finish - the work that will be in the exhibition you will produce after being part of the campaign.

The process for this is you will be paired with our Voices or given key words or phrases to produce work inspired by the key themes of the campaign. You then have to produce the work by December 2026.

The artworks will be auctioned with a minimum of 50% being fundraised for the charity. Artists may receive the other 50% to cover their production costs, or opt to donate 100% of the final auction price to be donated to the charity.
