The Left Bank Leeds Art Prize is a group exhibition that awards a £500 prize.

THEME: CONNECTION

Artists and collectives are invited to submit work that fits with the open theme of "connection". All mediums are considered, including painting, photography, dance, drawing, performance, film, sound and textile. We’re very open to interpretations of the theme and would like to see a diverse selection of works. Artists can submit existing work or create new work in responds to the theme but all work must be complete for submission.

We ask you to submit 3-5 pieces of work that can sit alongside one another. This is less important for those submitting film, installation or performance pieces. 

EXHIBITION AND VOTING PROCESS

The selection panel longlists c.50 artists and their work makes up the the exhibition. The selection panel also shortlists five artists to be considered for the Left Bank Leeds Art Prize. The public vote to award the £500 prize.  

The exhibition runs 17-20 July, with an Meet & Greet event for the artists and selection panel (5-6pm), and an Opening Night (6-8pm) on Wednesday 17 July that is open to the public. Attendees at the Opening Night will be able to vote until 7:30pm when the votes will be counted and the winner announced. 

KEY DATES

Artists selected to take part in the exhibition must deliver their work to Left Bank Leeds on Sunday 14 July, between 12 noon and 6pm and are invited to attend the Artist Meet & Greet and Opening Event on 17 July.

Work must be collected on 21 July between 12 noon and 6pm. Artists are responsible for any postage costs if work needs to be returned by post, and must provide this before the work is returned. Works to be hung will need to be delivered with D rings and wire already on them. 

DEADLINE

The submission deadline is midnight on Sunday 2 June 2019.

AWARD

The winner of the 2019 Left Bank Leeds Art Prize will receive £500 to help the development of their practice. The five artists/collectives shortlisted for the prize will be interviewed and featured on The State of The Arts website.

When is the deadline?
The deadline is midnight on Sunday 2 June.
How many works can I submit?
We ask that you submit 3-5 pieces of work that can sit alongside one another as a series. This is less important if you’re submitting a film, installation or performance piece.
When do I need to deliver my work to the venue?
Work must be delivered to Left Bank Leeds on Sunday 14 July between 12 noon and 6pm. All works to be hung on the walls will need to be delivered with D rings and wired ready for hanging.
When do I need to collect my work from the venue?

How much does it cost?
It is free to submit your work and take part in the exhibition, should you be shortlisted. If your work is for sale and sells at the exhibition, Left Bank Leeds will take a 20% commission.
Will artists be paid for exhibiting their work?
We cannot provide funding to cover expenses associated with transporting or exhibiting work. One artist will be awarded £500 as the recipient of the Left Bank Leeds Art Prize.
When will work be on display?
Work will be displayed to the public between 17 and 20 July, 10-4pm. It will also be on display during the at the Opening Night (17 July, 6-8pm).
Does Left Bank Leeds have disabled access?
There is a small step up into the building as well as raised areas inside the building, and we can provide a ramp for these on request. Unfortunately, our toilets are not yet accessible for wheelchair users.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Left Bank Leeds is pleased to be working in collaboration with The State of The Arts, a website covering arts, culture and politics across England, to deliver the Left Bank Leeds Art Prize. We will jointly promote the exhibition via our quarterly programme, printed flyers, on our website, on TSOTA website, on social media and on external event listings and online advertising.
Do I need to be present?
If selected, you are responsible for the delivery and collection of your work and Left Bank Leeds cannot cover any expenses associated with this. We would like artists to attend the Artist Meet & Greet and Opening Night, where possible. Staff and volunteers at Left Bank Leeds will invigilate the exhibition.
