Application for Membership to the 62 Group of Textiles Artists is now open. The Group invites those of any age, gender or nationality working in any textile media worldwide to apply. We are an artist led organisation. Since its establishment in 1962 some of the most highly regarded British textile artists have been members of the 62 Group. The membership is now international and is achieved through selection.

Selection Process:

Full membership selection happens in two stages:

Stage 1 – Digital Images

• A rotating panel of 62 Group members reviews submitted images. Applicants who receive a majority vote will move to Stage 2. Results are sent by email.

Stage 2 – Physical work

• A new panel (with one link member from Stage 1) reviews the physical work. Final decisions are made by majority vote and communicated by email.

All decisions are final, but unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply in future years.

Selection Criteria

• Quality: Work should be made to a high professional standard and show consistency in finish and presentation
  
  
• Originality: Your submission should reflect your own artistic voice and show a personal, thoughtful and innovative approach
  
  
• Coherence: The work should form a well-resolved and coherent body, demonstrating clear ideas and direction
  
  
• Knowledge of Materials and Techniques: Your work should show skill, care and understanding of your chosen materials and techniques, with confident and professional execution.

Commitment:

• Fees: The annual membership fee is currently £65 GBP (payable on 1st Jan annually) which covers the newsletters, AGM as well as publications and organising of exhibitions. A separate non-refundable application fee is also required when submitting your work for exhibition as well as hanging fees if successful.
  
  
• All exhibiting members are subject to continuous selection by their peers. Members must submit work regularly. Failure to do so and/or failure to be selected for 3 consecutive years ends membership. This process ensures the continued artistic growth and vitality of the Group.
  
  
• Members are expected to take an active role in the group’s administration. The Group’s ongoing success depends upon members’ involvement. You should only apply if you are willing to play an active role in the administration of the Group. Roles include: assisting with membership applications, organising and hanging exhibitions, carrying out PR and social media, compiling newsletters, encouraging engagement and organising events for training/ widening participation.
  
  
• New members are encouraged to attend the AGM to meet virtually with other members of the 62 Group. The 2026 AGM will be held in early December.

How to apply:

1.    Payment of a £30 GBP Sterling submission fee by PayPal. This must be paid before any application can be considered. Please note that you DO NOT need to have your own PayPal account. Click on the ‘Pay Now’ button below to go to the PayPal login panel and choose ‘Pay with Debit or Credit Card’ if you don’t have an account. Once you have paid and received the confirmation email from PayPal, you should make a note of the Transaction ID as you will be asked for this when completing the application form.

2.    Submission of a completed application form together with a current CV and 5-10 digital images of your work saved as JPEGs. (Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered).

a.    Your CV should be saved as a PDF, DOC or DOCX file which should be no more than 4MB. It should include:

Your full name

Education and Qualifications | Relevant dates | Awarding institutions | Grades/levels awarded.

Work Experience | Selected exhibitions | Commissions and publications.

A separate artists statement (max 250 words) including aims, sources, influences, materials and methods.

b.    All images should be of a high standard, promoting the applicant’s credentials as a professional practitioner. It is important that applicants note that poor quality digital images will reflect badly on the application and may be rejected.

Please submit between five to ten images illustrating at least five pieces of work made in the last five years, but not including work made as part of a degree show.

Detail views are welcome but you must also include a whole view or views of the work in question.

Digital images should be in JPEG format only and have a resolution of not less than 300dpi and a file size of no more than 4MB each. Please name your images in the format: image number_your first name_your last name.jpeg Example: 1_Anni_Albers.jpeg
