Lucent is an exciting initiative that ignites creativity across the UK, celebrating the remarkable ideas from talented individuals like you! Lightpool invites submissions of innovative concepts—no formal artistic credentials are required both light art professionals and newcomers can submit an idea. Those chosen as Lucent participants will see their creations come to life and shine brightly at Lightpool. Seize this opportunity to showcase your unique vision

Successful candidates will receive support from Lightpool and Lightworks in covering production expenses and accessing the technical expertise necessary for the creation and installation of their artwork, along with an artwork fee.

As part of our commitment to the development of local creativity, one of the Lucent commissions is reserved for people who are currently living in or originally from Lancashire.

If your initial application is successful, you will be invited to a meeting to further discuss your application. 2 Artists will be selected to take part.

Fees:

A fee of up to £1,000 for successful applicants
Materials budget of up to £6,000

Selection of applicants will be made by the Lightpool programming team and one of our partners from Light Up The North.

Artists will be selected on the following criteria:

  • Artistic quality – the strength & quality of the idea.
  • Public experience – what will our visitors experience be
  • Project management – can the artwork be created within the time available. Is the work durable enough for the festival dates. What materials are you using when considering the environmental impact and outdoor display.
  • Environmental Sustainability – in the design and delivery. Does the artwork have a future life for touring to other events
  • Level of innovation and creativity in the concept and/or proposed method of public participation (if applicable)
  • Is the proposal a new light artwork


We are accepting applications from artists at early stages of their light art development and are particularly interested in artists who want to experiment, innovate and extend their practice.

Shortlisted artists will engage in an online conversation with the Lightpool team to explore their aspirations, and what other support may be needed and available.
