Taking place from 19th -21st May 2017, we are looking for artists, collectives and groups from the North of England to submit proposals to run exhibitions, performances and events in one of three pop-up sites in Middlesbrough over the weekend. Successful applicants will be chosen in mid-April and be awarded a stipend of £422 towards the cost of the project. Work should be ready to install by May 15th and artists will be required to host the space for the 3 days of the festival.

SUBMISSION OUTLINE:

Middlesbrough Art Weekender aims to promote artists and collectives working in or from the North. The curatorial thematic of the weekend is around the ideas of the dispersed gallery. Each project should host at least one public facing event in the space as well as building an exhibition/project space or events.

WHAT TO SUBMIT:

Up-to 5 images of the work or your practice, a 250-word (max) bio of the collective, Names and information of each member if relevant. 500-word (max) proposal outlining the plan, a budget plan for the stipend, and a time frame of events.  A 1-page CV of any previous projects.

FINANCIAL DETAILS/PAYMENT:

There will be a stipend of £422 to support each project. There is no cost for application.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:

April 17th 2017. Successful applicants will be informed by April 21st 2017 and must have work ready for install by May 15th.

ABOUT US:

Middlesbrough Art Weekend is a three day contemporary art festival for Northeast of England artists, as well as hosting a programme of international work. Work will be placed in existing art spaces as well as in both disused spaces and businesses along Albert road, reactivating the heart of the town. Its aim is to build on the cultural scene already existing in Middlesbrough, and to promote increased arts activity in the Tees Valley area

Middlesbrough Arts Weekender is supported by the Arts Council of England and Middlesbrough Arts Council, and organised by Paul Stewart and The Auxiliary Project Space.

Imaginative and exciting, really tackling the idea of a dispersed gallery (this is the curatorial thematic) what does it look like to locate these project spaces in Middlesbrough. It does not have to be a community focused programme but it should acknowledge the public in some way
What are the selection criteria?
A strong proposal and a realistic project idea and budget for the time frame.
