We are calling for all local designers, illustrators and artists to respond to the theme MULTIPLY, to consider their experiences of the pandemic and use this opportunity to 'speak out visually'.

Background

In 2016 the bus station on Vicar lane was transformed into 'The Old Red Bus Station', a cultural, food and drink, and events space. Five years later it has become one of the most loved venues in Leeds, with a DIY ethic, vegan canteen, bar, exhibition space and underground club / event space. ORBS has been giving Leeds raw, cutting edge music ever since and has continued to have an emphasis on supporting new and local talent. 

Like many venues in the UK, ORBS had to close its doors due to COVID-19 and is now at risk of never opening again. Now, with the recent variant and lockdown, the venue is in real need of support. 

Context

The team at ORBS are developing a series of online events and projects that will continue to focus on supporting new, young and local talent and at the same time fundraise for the venue. The first project for 2021 is a design competition based on the theme 'Multiply'.

The virus has to multiply its genetic material, which consists of a single long RNA strand. This task is performed by the viral "copy machine" (Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry)

We are calling for all local designers, illustrators and artists to respond to the theme MULTIPLY, to consider their experiences of the pandemic and use this opportunity to 'speak out visually'. 

Brief

Responding to the theme 'Multiply' we would like you to design one/all or a mixture of the following:

1.   Turntable Slip Mat 

2.   CDJ / Technics Skin

3.   Cassette Inlay

Winning designs

Winners will be selected by the design team at the Old Red Bus Station.

Winning designs will be showcased on our online DJ competition in Feb 2021. A selection of winning submissions and artists will also feature on our website throughout February & March. The overall winner will have a solo show at ORBS later in 2021, with private view and publicity across our networks.
