This is the Newcastle sister of the New York City “Nasty Women Exhibition” We are proud to be part of the International Nasty Women network and welcome work from anyone who identifies as being a Nasty Woman or supporter of Nasty Women. For us this is not a physical, party political or biological definition. We want this exhibition to include work from a wildly eclectic collection of Nasty Women! This group exhibition serves to demonstrate solidarity amongst people who identify with Nasty Woman in the face of threats to human rights (particularly women’s and LGTB rights). It also serves as a fundraiser to support organizations defending these rights. All profits from sale of artwork will be split between LGTB campaigning group “The Fed” (http://www.lgbtfed.com/community) and Byker Community Centre Women’s Group. Co-curated by Aly Smith & Lady Kitt, “Nasty Women Newcastle” will be held at Byker Community Centre, April 7th -23rd, 2017

With the theme “Women’s Work” we welcome 2D and 3D work from anyone who identifies as being a Nasty Women or supporter of Nasty Women.

Deadline: Thurs. March 30th (due to levels of interest we may close submissions early so please submit as soon as you can!)

As this is a fundraising exhibition, submissions (or editions of work/ postcards etc) should be for sale. We are particularly interested in receiving submissions from people who consider their work to be Craft based.

  • Work can be 2D or 3D (but must be no bigger than 30cm at any point)
  • We are also able to accommodate a limited number of video / performance works
  • Price must be no more than £200

In addition you may include: pre paid postage (if you would like your work to be returned to you, if unsold), printed copies of a brief bio (150 words max), a short statement about the work, what being a Nasty Women means to you (200 words max). A link to your website and up to 20 cards with your contact details etc.

Work will be rejected only on grounds of space, health & safety and some restrictions regarding content (when submitting work please take into consideration that the Community Centre is used by a wide variety of people, including children)
