New artist collective ran gallery in North East
Deadline: 07/02/2025City: Sunderland City Centre | Region: Tyne and Wear | Country: United Kingdom | Craig Knight
ATTENTION ALL ARTISTS AND CREATIVES! We are starting a collective and opening a new gallery based in the North East!
Ken Devine and Craig Knight plan to open a commercial art gallery in the heart of Sunderland, dedicated solely to quality original artwork and uniquely run by artists as a collective... a permanent base we can all be proud of.
We want artists who want to sell their artwork. This will be a gallery run by artists to support artists.
We have the venue, it's perfect ... but we need you, fellow artists to make it happen.
There are costs but they are easily affordable if we unite as a collective.
So, if the concept appeals to you and you work to the highest standards in 2D or 3D, please send a max. of 4 images by February.
Selected artists will be invited to meet at the gallery to have all your questions answered.
We consistently hear artists expressing how desperately they want their artwork to be seen and how they would love to sell their artwork, too.
Financial stability often determines whether artists can continue to 'carry on', so as successful professional artists, we feel we can offer helpful advise and support.
Acceptance by art galleries is an established route but it can be hard to 'break' into these, and they usually take between 30% - 50%.
This heavily inflates the artwork's price (and these galleries can be a bit daunting to the general public too).
We want to form a collective so artists can get helpful advice and support, have a place to meet clients and get 100% of their sales.
However, this means the collective needs to be responsible for costs and staffing.
We have looked at city centre premises with rent of around £12,000 per year (we have found a beautiful premise).
Obviously, the larger the collective is, the less each artist has to pay.
However, we would limit the collective to 30 artists, so each artist has a dedicated space. So far, we have around a dozen artists who have expressed an interest.
The costs (including utilities)
10 artists = £83 each artist per month / £20.75 per week
15 artists = £55 each artist per month / £13.75 per week
20 artists = £41 each artist per month / £10.25 per week
25 artists = £33 each artist per month / £8.25 per week
30 artists = £27 each artist per month / £6.75 per week
Artists will retain 100% of their sales, but you need to be part of the collective, willing to be involved.
We want to offer a mixture of 2D and 3D artwork of a professional standard and NOT be restricted by a 'house' style.
We want artists with a positive outlook who are ready to get involved.
Members who could steward the gallery about once a month (but we could look at artists who cannot do staffing if we have sufficient numbers).
To apply for a space or express your interest in being part of this opportunity, please send us up to 4 high-quality images of your work.
We look forward to receiving your submissions.
