An exhibition inspired by the New Moon, on 24 January 2020, at the Lumen Crypt Gallery 23-26 January 2019.

Lumen Studios seek individual proposals for a group exhibition relating to the New Moon on 24 January 2020 and the partial Lunar Eclipse on 10 January 2020. Artworks can be any media, and can respond to any aspect of the New Moon or partial Lunar Eclipse. Artists may explore how humans and animals have responded to the New Moon throughout millennia, or how the absence of moonlight during this time allows for the visibility of certain stars.

Lumen is an art collective, focused on themes of astronomy and light, regularly exhibiting in churches as well as galleries.  Through art, exhibitions and seminars we aim to raise a dialogue about how humanity understands existence. You can find out more about our work here: http://www.lumenstudios.co.uk

St John on Bethnal Green is a grade 1 Listed Building designed by Sir John Soane, and was built between 1826 and 1828. The Lumen Crypt Gallery reflects Sir John Soane's attention to detail, boasting unique curved walls and egg shaped pods.  The space is especially effective for dark-space installations and projections, but also supports 2-Dimensional works. The Crypt is still the final resting place of 2 people, and we wish to respect their presence in the space.

The artist must bring all equipment and tools to install and destall the exhibition. Lumen Studios Crypt Gallery is a second grade listed building, so artists must use existing holes and/or temporary hanging devices. Duct tape, velcro, double sided tape, screws and nails are not allowed, as they all leave permanent marks / rip off paint, For 2 dimensional works, we suggest purchasing command strips as they leave a minimal trace on the walls and floor.

Venue: The Lumen Crypt Gallery, St John on Bethnal Green, 200 Cambridge Heath Road, London, E2 9PA.

Date: 24th-26th January 2019. 12-6pm. Private View: 23 January 6-9pm.

Cost for artists to participate: £50. Payable by 02 January 2020.

Artists must also invigilate for at least one 3 hour shift during the exhibition.
