VAULT COLLECTIVE is a collaborative group of curators based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. We are seeking submissions and proposals from artists based in and around the North East of England on the title 'CRAFTED WITH INTENT', an exhibition examining the interplay between ideas of 'Art' and 'Craft'.

THE EXHIBITION

The divide and debate that exists between the concept of 'Art' and 'Craft' is a long standing one. With the popularity of craft seeing a resurgence over the last decade, the boundaries between the two are constantly being redefined. Is craft always a quantifiable action? Can artistic intent be explored through a craft medium? We are searching for submissions that not only challenge this divide, but explore the social, historical and political reasons that have worked to form it.

The proposed artwork can be of any medium, including the visual arts, installation, performance, and beyond. We are asking that each submission have an accompanying text that will be published as part of the exhibition, outlining how you see the medium chosen in relation to the idea of 'craft', and specifying its narrative intent. Much like the artworks being submitted, the accompanying text can have any structure.
