Open Call – Out of the Woods. Arts compilation publication. Fronteer are creating an A5 publication featuring work by UK based artists and writers from a range of disciplines with a feel-good theme.

We are looking for 28 pages of content (1 page per artist) to be part of a one-off compilation, which will be called Out of the Woods. This could be artwork, poetry, photography, a piece of writing, or anything you feel would be suitable for a feel-good collection of work. The successful work will result in a carefully curated A5 “Zine”, printed on glossy paper and staple bound.

It is free to submit with successful artists paying a fee of £6.50, in return for which they will receive a copy of the printed publication (posted to a UK address).

The finished publication will be available for sale online and at Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield, once galleries can reopen. These copies will be available for sale at £6.50 each, including free UK postage (international postage available for an additional fee).  We are keen to continue to offer opportunities to artists throughout the ever-changing circumstances and believe that this publication will offer something physical, as an alternative to online exhibitions.

We are interested in anything you may want to submit, so if you are unsure or have any questions please get in touch.

The deadline for submissions is 22nd November

Successful applicants will be notified by 24th November

The publication will be sent to print by 25th November and those included will need to pay their £6.50 fee by 1st December at the latest. Once we take delivery of the finished publication, we will send out your copy by 2nd Class Royal Mail postage.

We are aiming for the finished copy to be ready by the first week in December, circumstances permitting.

How to submit

Applicants may submit ONE piece of work for consideration. If you are submitting an image we require it to be sent as a jpeg at 300 dpi, and images should be between 1mb and 3mb.

If you are submitting text please ensure it is in either Microsoft Word or pdf format. Please double check that your text is exactly as you would like it to appear, including spell check, spacing etc.

All submissions will be included as they are submitted here. There will not be another chance to edit work or make alterations to the information submitted, so please check carefully before sending.

By submitting to this open call you are agreeing to be included in the publication. This opportunity will have a very fast turn around time, and we will begin to compile the publication as soon as applicants are selected, meaning there will not be time for artists to retract their submission if they change their mind.

Thank you and good luck!

Michael and Sharon (The Fronteer Team)
