No Space is a pop up exhibition for the SpaceCADets programme, in association with CADS Studios. We are looking for artists who explore themes of negative and liminal space.

No Space is an open call, visual art project working within the theme of Negative Space.

The exhibition space is not a traditional white cube environment, but an old steelworks office in an industrial area in Sheffield, which has been converted into art studios and workspaces.

We are looking for artists who explore themes of liminal and/or negative space through their art practice; negative space refers to the feeling of emptiness or absence that contributes to an unsettling or eerie atmosphere.

It highlights the feeling of loneliness and the unfamiliar. Liminal spaces, by their nature, are in-between or transitional zones, often characterised by a lack of clear purpose or defined activity.

Liminality can exist in time, people and places. It may refer to nostalgia, transitional or psychological states, critical turning points in life, or sudden events that significantly impact a person’s life.

Our project invites each artist to interpret the concept of negative space using an array of materials and a variety of artworks, from paintings to video installations

Suggested concepts include:

  • The strain between presence and absence
  • The use of emptiness as an expressive tool
  • The subconscious, memory and inner dialogue
  • Individuals undergoing personal transformations

About Us:

CADS- The No Space exhibition is a response to the Space CADets programme, which is organised by CADS.

They offer affordable studios, workspaces and create opportunities for artists whenever possible.

Daniil Danet- Curator and participating artist

SKoT

Together, we are a newly formed, non-profit collective of artists from Sheffield, under the name “Some Kind of Team”. Or SKoT for short.

What To Expect:

Daniil has been working with CADS for over a year; based on previous projects with CADS we are expecting around 50-60 visitors at the private viewing.

The private view will run from 18:00-21:00 on 24/01/26 at Eagle Works, where we will be providing refreshments. This will give you a fun networking opportunity with Sheffield’s art scene.

After the evening of the 24th, Daniil and Corinne will invigilate 13:00- 20:00 until the 28th. After this you will need to uninstall your work by 30/01/26.

Before the opening night, Daniil and Corinne will be organising photography of the work and the event and we will be happy to send you the photos. Of course, feel free to take your own photos if you prefer.

Programme Benefits:

Marketing:

You can leave the marketing to us. As No Space is a part of the Space CADets Programme, CADS will promote the exhibition on their social media and website. We will also promote the exhibition, feature the artists and their work on our SKoT Collective social media accounts. We will also take care of the flyers and distribute them to appropriate venues, as well as advertise the event in local newspapers.

Community:

We believe that by inviting other artists to join this project, it provides an opportunity to network and collaborate. We have created an open and supportive environment, where you will be encouraged to experiment and develop your practice. You will be a vital part of our mission to foster a deeper cultural dialogue and bring new energy to the Sheffield art scene.

No Fees:

As you may have already noticed, there’s no submission fee and should you want to sell your work, we don’t take any commission from your sales. However, please be mindful that we are unfortunately not in a financial position to pay artists or cover any costs towards travel or materials.
