CGS is delighted to be exhibiting at the Buckenham Galleries, Southwold for the first time. The exhibition is open to all CGS members at any stage of their career. It will be selected with all work for sale. We are asking you to help celebrate the warmth of a SUMPTUOUS SUMMER. This brief is as wide as you wish to make it and we welcome wall pieces as well as plinth based work. If you are not currently a member you can join to take part. See details below.

Buckenham Galleries is an independent fine art gallery, and is one of East Anglia's leading contemporary art galleries.  It is situated in the heart of the seaside town of Southwold, showing a wide variety of painting, ceramic, jewellery, and glass.

This is a CGS members only and is a selected show.  All artists are able to submit up to 3 pieces of work. An administration fee of £25 will be charged. 

Exhibition dates: Thursday 1st June – Saturday 15th July 2023

Opening times: Monday - Saturday 10am – 4pm

Criteria

Up to three pieces of work can be submitted. You can send up to 3 images of one piece, with at least one showing the whole piece, or 3 images of different pieces of work. (Please note if you are selected, we cannot guarantee that all pieces will be shown).

• Entrants must be paid up members of the Contemporary Glass Society.

• Work must comprise of at least 50% medium of glass. 

• Work submitted for consideration must have been made after 1st January, 2018.

• The work must be for sale. 

• It must be possible to deliver selected works to the Gallery  by Saturday, 27th May, 2023

• The artist must complete all points included in the  attached application form.

• Artists can submit up to 3 pieces of work

• We welcome both wall pieces and plinth-based work

• Work must be resilient to both heat and light as it is not possible to control environmental factors in the Gallery


Selection

Selection will take place in early March by a panel including the Gallery owners and internationally renown glass artist, David Reekie.  Artist will be notified by 17th April if they have or have not been selected.  Selected artists will then be contacted by the Gallery, who will issue their own contract.

Delivery and Collection

• Selected work must be delivered or sent to: Buckenham Galleries at 81, High Street, Southwold IP18 6DS

• The delivery week for work is 25th – 27th May with the final deadline for delivery being 4.00pm on 27th May. You must let the Gallery know in advance when either you will be delivering your work or it will be arriving via a courier 

• Deliveries can be made within the Gallery’s normal opening hours of 10:00-16:00, Thursday - Saturday

• If you require alternative arrangements, do let the Gallery know and they will endeavour to support this.

• Make sure your work is packed well keeping the package as small as possible. Put your name on the outside of your package plus a small image of your piece and the reference CGS 

• Include a Delivery Note inside, with your name, title of work and selling price. If there is more than one piece do ensure each piece is marked with a code.  Do make sure work is packed well.

• Attach a label to each piece detailing your name, the title of work and selling price.  Ensure label provides the same information as the Delivery Note.

• Any unsold work must be collected by artists or collection arranged at their cost. If work is being imported into the UK for this show, the maker must pay for any duties imposed by UK customs.  

Insurance

Work will be insured from arrival at the Gallery for the duration of the exhibition until work is either collected or dispatched.  However, artists are encouraged to have their own insurance.

No responsibility can be accepted by the venue for any damage incurred to exhibits whilst in storage or during transit. Transportation and insurance of exhibits to and from the venue space is the sole responsibility of the artist.

Display of Work

All work should be provided “exhibition ready”. Where this involves framing, work should be provided in high quality, clean and unmarked frames. Frames should be the correct size for the work, with no visible gaps around the edges or mounting area and the work should be securely fastened within. Works not in an open frame should be behind glass not Perspex. Frames should have sufficient hanging provision as outlined below.

Marketing and Publicity

If selected, please ensure that all images you send are available for us to use for publicity and that you have copyright. In any case please provide the name of the photographer who will be credited accordingly. Publicity images should be a minimum of 300dpi. Promotion by the Gallery & CGS will include digital and print.

There will be a Preview afternoon on Saturday 3rd June at 2pm, which we encourage you to attend, and there will be invitations that you can use for potential customers. 

Selling work

All work should be for sale.  The Gallery will add a commission of 50%  including VAT  to the artist's price. 

Payment for Work Sold

Buckenham Galleries will notify you of any sale of your work as and when sales occur.  All payment for works sold are settled after the end of the exhibition.  Payment will be made by direct bank transfer (BACS) and will be made a maximum of 35 days after the end of the exhibition (to allow the gallery to receive payment from buyers).

Submitted Work

Any work that has been submitted may not be withdrawn from the exhibition before the end date except in the case of a sale.  Work may not be taken out of the exhibition without prior approval for the duration of the exhibition, and any sales of work for four weeks before and after the exhibition may not be advertised at a lower price than the exhibition price. (You may privately negotiate lower prices with buyers, but prices advertised on your website and in other exhibitions must not be lower).

Sold works may be replaced with pieces of similar style and dimensions at the discretion of the Gallery.
