Fronteer Independent Art Fair will be held at Contemporary Art Space Chester (CASC) in the city of Chester over August Bank Holiday weekend. Fronteer are looking for performance artists to perform over the 4 day event.

Fronteer invite UK based performance artists to apply to be part of Fronteer Independent Art Fair in Chester. The Art Fair will consist of around 25 contemporary art exhibitions in their own allocated space, and a performance by a performance artist taking place each day.

Performance artists will have a space in the window at CASC Gallery, where their information will be displayed (name, performance title, times and dates), but they are free to move around the art fair as they please. The window space does have some permanent signage on the glass which may slightly impede the view for people outside the gallery, and performers do not have to perform in the window space if they do not wish too. (See the photographs attached for a view of the window space.)

We will have one performance artist in the art far each day, and performers are welcome to perform a one off performance for as long as they wish, or repeat the same performance throughout the day.

The event will be open to the public 26th – 29th August. Performance artists will install and uninstall anything they wish to use for their performance either during opening hours, or before and after the art fair closes each day.

We will have a private space where artists can get changed (please note, we cannot guarantee that there will be a lock on the door, and the changing space may not have disabled access).

There will be a private view evening on Friday 26th August with one performance artist working at this event.

It is free to submit an application, with artists successfully selected being asked to pay a £50 fee which covers use of the space, admin fees and advertising/printing.

In return for your fee you will get:

·         A space dedicated to your performance (in the window)

·         Promotion of your performance through social media

·         A changing space for performers

·         Listing on our Fronteer Independent Art Fair website page

·         Press releases advertising the event through the media

·         A poster with your performance details on displayed throughout the art fair at CASC Gallery

·         An invitation to the private view for you, your friends and family, with drinks provided

·         Staff on hand to welcome and assist

·         Advertising of the art fair around Chester

·         Free entry to all visitors

Performance artists are invited to submit one proposal by completing the submission form through Curatorspace.

The submission deadline is 17th July 2022. Successful artists will be contacted by 21st July 2022 at the latest.

If selected you will need to confirm and pay your fee by 31st July 2022 to allow us time to start promoting your performance.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Submit

UK based artists are invited to submit ONE performance proposal each.

If your performance requires audio or video, please be aware that there is a limited capacity to the amount of video or audio work that can be included in the art fair. If you wish to submit audio or video work you must provide your own equipment and clearly outline how this will work. E.g. a DVD player playing a film on loop.

Please provide a concise description of your intended performance and how it will work in a busy art fair environment with families and children present.

Please be specific about how long your performance will take, how many times you wish to repeat it throughout the day (if at all), and how you intend to use the small window space or the wider gallery.

Please outline any equipment, fittings or props you intend to use, and please be aware that you will need to provide these yourself, and set up and take away everything you will use, including any litter created.

Please provide links to any past performances that may be relevant to your application. This could be a website link, or social media link to show your practice if you have one available.

If relevant, you may submit up to 5 images of the type of work you would like to exhibit.

We will allocate a performance day for successful artists based on proposals and other art fair activities happening each day. If you are only available on certain days, please let us know in your application.

Thank you and good luck!

Michael and Sharon (The Fronteer Team)
