VOCALESK is an independent magazine that celebrates the fringes of art and design. The initial issue explores a phenomenon coined "street architecture". Have you ever noticed a piece of urban artwork that seems to create its own space within the city. From grassroots galleries to wheat paste wallpaper, we invite you to bring this fringe phenomenon to the surface through participation in the first issue of VOCALESK, Street Architecture. The magazine, based in Toronto, will give artists around the world an opportunity to have their work featured on an international level. For this initial issue we are inviting writers, photographers, poets, artists and sculptors to share how this phenomenon has shaped your work.

VOCALESK is an international magazine that celebrates artwork through fringe phenomena. It is created to support established and emerging artists within their careers to project their work onto a global stage for new collaborative opportunities. The first issue is aimed for publication in mid to late September 2019.

Street Architecture can be defined as works at the interface between informal urban artworks and the more permanent structures within our cities.

What is the threshold between surface and space?

How can the inhabitants of a city impact the fabric of the city?

What is the nature of space created through urban artforms?

All of these questions shall be explored in this initial issue of VOCALESK. We invite artists to submit works at a stage ready to be included within the publication. For group works please include names of all participants involved (or the collaborative group name) to ensure all artists or groups are credited for works. VOCALESK is an independent magazine for the promotion of artists and will be produced as an online publication. The curation of the work, editing and publication will be carried out free of charge to chosen participating artists. In addition, all chosen participants will recieve a discount code for the reduced purchase cost of a printed version of the publication.

We look forward to seeing your submissions.
