SYNTHESIZED EMPATHY
Deadline: 26/04/2026City: London | Country: United Kingdom | Celeste Gallery
Synthesized Empathy brings together works from multiple artists, presenting the boundaries of artificial intelligence systems in the emotional dimension through installation, generative art, interactive media, video, and sound. The exhibition doesn't attempt to answer whether machines truly "feel," but rather uses this uncertainty itself as a field of tension between aesthetics and ethics.
"Can code feel, or can it only simulate the aesthetics of pain and pleasure?"
This exhibition explores the increasingly blurred boundary between simulated emotions and genuine biological emotional responses.
It doesn't offer answers, but rather uses the question itself as the exhibition space—inviting viewers to confront an unavoidable moral dilemma: is empathy for machines a moral evolution, or a postmodern illusion?
Core Questions:
Can code truly "feel," or merely simulate the outward appearance of emotions?
Is human empathy with AI an extension of subjectivity, or an illusion of projection?
When the biological basis of emotions is replicated by algorithms, who defines the standard of "authenticity"?
In human-machine relationships, is empathy an evolution of morality, or a postmodern loss of self?
