Call for local emerging artists for a pop-up exhibition situated in Warrington town centre.
We're inviting local emerging artists to apply for this micro commission as part of the 2019 Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival in October.
We will display the work of five artists in an empty retail unit in Warrington town centre, (unit and location TBC).
Each artist will be paid £750; we will consider proposals from both individual artists and groups of artists. Please make it clear in your proposal if you are applying as an individual or a group.
We're particularly keen to work with local emerging artists. This could include:
- recent graduates who have not had a major exhibition in a museum or gallery
- non-graduates at the beginning of their career who have created a modest body of work
We will consider work of any medium, but we're particularly interested in work that is risk-taking, contemporary and experimental. Work that will create an engaging and perhaps surprising experience for audiences that aren't necessarily looking to encounter art.
We're open to proposals from artists and groups, but here are some suggestions to give you an idea of our thinking:
- The exhibition could take the form of a residency where the public can watch the artist creating work in a non-traditional space
- Thematically the work could address the role artists play in regenerating towns such as Warrington, perhaps instigating a discussion around notions such as community, gentrification, opportunities for artists etc
