Fronteer Gallery are looking for artwork on the theme of the sea. This could be work that relates to the sea in any way you see fit, from seascapes to work inspired by sea myths.

Fronteer Gallery invite UK based artists to submit work to our exhibition of the sea. This could be work in any medium (except audio or video) that responds to any aspect of “the sea”. The exhibition will run for 5 weeks from Sunday 17th July in the main gallery space.

There will be a private view evening on Sunday 17th July.

It is free to submit work, with only successful artists paying a £40 fee.

In return for your fee, you will get full invigilation throughout the exhibition, a private view evening with free drinks which you are welcome to bring friends and family along to, and promotion of the exhibition online through social media.

UK based artists are invited to submit ONE piece of work along with up to 150 words which will be displayed on the wall alongside your work.

Work can be any size, but please be aware that we only have a limited amount of space meaning we are less likely to accept very large pieces of work.

The gallery is open Wednesdays - Saturdays.

The submission deadline is 10th June 2022. Successful artists will be contacted by 10th June 2022.

Successful artists are welcome to send their work by post. Please note that it can only be sent using Royal Mail, and must the fit dimensions for a Royal Mail medium parcel or smaller. Due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions only Royal Mail delivery personnel have access to the building where the post will be sent to. We cannot accept work sent by courier, including Parcelforce. Please note that the postal address is not the same as the gallery address. All work sent by post must reach us not later than 1st July 2022.

Artists are also welcome to deliver work in person to the gallery during gallery opening hours until Friday 1st July.  Any work which is too big to be sent as a Royal Mail medium parcel must be delivered in person.

If you have any issues with these dates or parcel sizes please contact us before applying.

Successful artists should pay their £40 fee by 1st July 2022 at the latest.

Work can be offered for sale during the exhibition, and there is a commission charge of 10%.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Submit

Artists are invited to submit ONE piece of work each.

Work can be 2D or 3D, though unfortunately we cannot accept video or audio works.

Work can be any size. The dimensions you give for your work when submitting must include the size of the frame if the work is a framed piece. Sculptural and 3D works should be able to stand on a 40x40cm plinth, or smaller. Larger sculptural pieces that will not fit on a plinth are welcome, but please give specific details of how they are to be displayed. If you are unsure about the size and shape of 3D pieces, and our ability to cater for them, please get in touch.

All wall text information relating to your work, including price and description, will be taken directly from your Curatorspace submission and should be correct at the time of submission.

Please submit up to 3 images of your work, one image showing the finished piece of work, including the frame if the work is framed, and two further images to show detail if needed.

You should write up to 150 words about the work which will be displayed alongside your work.

At the end of the exhibition, work should be collected in person on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th August ONLY.

At the end of the exhibition the gallery will be closed and then given over to another artist to host their own exhibition for up to 5 weeks while we (Fronteer) are away hosting an art fair in Chester. This means that all artwork from this exhibition will be removed from the gallery and safely stored elsewhere until 21st September, and artists will not be able to collect their work from the gallery between 21st August and 20th September.

If you wish for your work to be returned by post we will start to send post back from 21st September onwards.

If you would like your work returning to you by post please be aware that we charge a fee which includes packaging, handling and 2nd Class signed for postage. Larger parcels can be returned through Parcelforce and will be sent Express 48. Couriers cannot collect your work from the gallery. If work is small enough you are welcome to include a stamped addressed envelope for return postage which will incur no further charge and we will endeavour to get this sent on either 19th or 21st August.

All work must be complete at the time of submission. Any work which varies from the original piece submitted may be rejected. If you wish to submit any form of print, it will be your responsibility to print it off and prepare it for exhibition before delivering it to us.

Thank you and good luck!

Michael and Sharon (The Fronteer Team)
