The Self as Interface
Deadline: 10/08/2026City: Online | Country: Portugal | Selma Eduarda Pereira
Galeria 5a ao sul invites international artists to submit works for our inaugural digital exhibition, "The Self as Interface".
We are seeking contemporary, digital, and post-digital proposals that critically explore how subjectivity, identity, and the human body are mediated, translated, and reconstructed through screens and code.
Selected artists will feature in an immersive 3D virtual exhibition, receive a dedicated website feature with an exclusive interview, and be published in our official exhibition catalogue with an international ISBN via Amazon Publishing.
About the Gallery
5a ao sul is an international, online, and borderless contemporary art gallery. This is a space where creation emerges from visual culture, post‑digital aesthetics, and transmedia narratives that shape the artistic sensibility of our time.
As we prepare our first exhibition, we open this site as a living threshold: a place for artists and audiences who explore hybrid languages, critical practices, and new forms of digital presence.
Here, image, sound, code, performance, and text intersect to expand what we understand as contemporary artistic experience.
The gallery is taking shape — and the light has already begun.
The Concept: The Self as Interface
For our inaugural exhibition, Galeria 5a ao sul invites artists to submit works exploring the theme “The Self as Interface.”
In an era shaped by ubiquitous computing, algorithmic mediation, and continuous digital presence, the boundaries of subjectivity have shifted.
The body is no longer where the self ends; instead, the self is projected, fragmented, and reconstructed through screens, data, and code.
We seek artworks that critically engage with how identity, memory, and intimacy are translated into digital environments.
How do we inhabit the screen? How does the post‑digital landscape reshape our physical and psychological sensitivity?
We welcome contemporary artworks that challenge traditional boundaries, exploring hybrid languages and new transmedia narratives.
Eligible Mediums
We accept contemporary art submissions with a primary focus on digital and post‑digital practices. Eligible formats include:
- Digital Imagery and Photography
- Video Art and Moving Image
- Interactive Digital Art (submitted as still frames)
- Documentation of Transmedia Performances
Note: As the gallery operates entirely online, we do not handle or exhibit physical artworks.
