Definition: 'Ostranenie,' in Russian, meaning 'making strange' or 'defamiliarization,' coined by Russian writer and critic Viktor Shklovsky. Destabilizing the relationship between subject and object, removing reality from its context and subverting the ordinary - the essence of art.

Welcome to The Ostranenie Theatre's 3rd installment (or TOT.3 for short)! We're looking for moving image artworks of all varieties, including (but definitely not limited to) short films, music videos, recorded performance pieces, animations and experimental video art. We're interested in relevant contemporary discussions of philosophy, socio-politics, environmental science and more...

All event proceeds go straight to a Manchester-based charity (which is still being decided on - so if you have any suggestions please include them in your artwork description). All venue hire and running-related costs are paid for by the event runners and are not deducted from the event profits.

The event promises to be an evening full of thought-provoking and visually engaging short video artworks from artists across the globe. Candle-lit, relaxed and social and completely denying the formalities and reductive attitude of the white-walled gallery space.

All artworks submitted MUST be 10 mins or less in full file duration and must be in an MP4 format. We are open to all sorts of topics and discussions but please do not submit anything with hate rhetoric or high levels of pornography.

Event Proceeds:

The event will be ticketed and there will be a chance for attendees to donate further during the event, all this shall go directly towards the charity.

Copyright:

The copyright stays with the artist, they will be letting us borrow the work to display on that night only. We may also use still shots and short clips of the work to help advertise the event. Once the show is over, the work and any backups will be deleted from our drives. Short clips and still images may still be viewed on social media and our website after the event as we will not be going back and removing posts.
