"WEIGHTLESS" - Artist Book by SU4IP
Deadline: 01/06/2023City: Sheffield | Region: South Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | Lyndon Watkinson
SU4IP welcomes artists and their creations to feature in the "WEIGHTLESS" publication. All works in any medium related to this theme will be considered.
"WEIGHTLESS" is the second iteration of a submission-style publication produced by SU4IP. Welcoming all submissions responding to or related to feelings or experiences of lightness, airiness, ethereality, floating, spaciousness, etc.
Bound by gravity, humanity longs to defy the laws of nature. From flimsy wood and textile mockups, to highly complex and robust spacecraft capable of exiting orbit, our inate desire to be weightless is only restricted by our ability to explore new ways of thinking. Yet, prior to flight, creative individuals have explored and experimented with countless means of illustrating this inate desire.
A thin cotton sheet draped throughout an open space, rich sunlight gushing through its surface. A composition of oil paints across a sprawling canvas suggests vague outlines of soft, ethereal structures within a mysterious realm far beyond our reach. A delicate sculpture so delicately crafted and precariously arranged that it undermines our very understanding of physics.
These are just a few examples of how weightlessness could be associated with your work or practice. All mediums and formats are welcome, subject to the viability of being printed in a book. SU4IP invites you to push these boundaries of what weightlessness means, and how it can be portrayed in art practice.
