Wiro Mag: Care
Deadline: 31/07/2025City: Sheffield | Region: South Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | Lyndon Watkinson
Interested in having your art published, printed, and posted directly to your door? Exhibit alongside a diverse network of established and emerging artists in a collection underpinned by the theme of Care. All art in any medium related to this theme is welcome to feature in the third installation of this series!
Wiro Mag is a paperbound gallery space designed to capture art practice in motion, seeking to connect emerging and established artists with broader audiences, gain reputable and tangible exposure, and drive intimate conversations with creative individuals or collectives.
Wiro Mag: Care is a celebration of wellness, empathy, and compassion; three core components of humanity. Whether expressing care for oneself, others, or a greater purpose, work displaying or engaging with themes such as tenderness, consideration, or understanding is invited to be featured in a bespoke double-page spread.
A pencil sketch depicts a natural sanctuary, symbolic of a real location occupied by the artist, to retreat from society and embrace calm, natural connection, and respite from modern conventions.
Through this work, art is used as a tool to document oral history, as well as allow others to connect with locations potentially outside their orbit.
A collection of photographs depicting portraits of family members stricken with grief from an ongoing humanitarian crisis.
These powerful images cannot directly relieve them in any meaningful way.
Yet, the unapologetic and raw documentation of their living conditions and instability urges future generations from repeating the same mistakes, as well as encouraging them to exercise their individual powers to make a positive difference.
A lino cut series storyboards an almost animated visualisation of breath in the body, encouraging the viewer to pause and thoughtfully inhale and exhale.
We are reminded that through simple imagery, we can create wellness checkpoints for others to care for themselves in ways that are near effortless.
A physical reconstruction of an artist’s recovery from a period of bad mental health through the use of felt, balsa wood, and craft paint, drawing a connection between the childlike sense of wonder experienced with these objects and materials, contrasted with how these memories influenced their adolescence.
Through this assembly, we see how childhood events shape the effectiveness of support structures, seeking help, and maintaining positive habits.
These are just some of the ways in which the theme of care could be captured in the work you submit.
Wiro Mag invites you to challenge these criteria and push the boundaries of how these ideas can be depicted or expressed through art practice.
