CuratorSpace Artist Bursary #20: Camilla Stacey

Camilla Stacey is an artist, curator and #topclassfashionmodel based in Penryn, Cornwall. Her practice includes printmaking, installation, collage, drawing and zinemaking, and explores trauma and grief through humour and emotional sensitivity.

"I have recently returned from a month-long residency in the Arctic at the Spitsbergen Artist Centre, Svalbard. Whilst there I spent time exploring my long held interest in the 'frozen north' and how I experienced the everyday reality of being in a place where I didn’t see green for a month, where it was bright light 24 hours a day and where the temperature never went above zero degrees. I spent time taking photos, drawing, writing, making sound recordings and collecting 'treasures'.

This experience will form the basis of a body of work which I will produce over the coming year. In the interim I will be holding an event showcasing work in progress at Daisy Laing Gallery in Penzance. As part of this development work I have been invited to read from my writing at a poetry event held in Zennor Church, Cornwall in mid-September. To accompany this I will make an artist publication bringing together a long form piece of writing, drypoint prints, and drawings made during the residency. This project builds on my previous experience of zine making as a tutor and librarian at Cornwall zine library and will give me the opportunity to explore new bookbinding techniques and distribution methods."
