    Dr. Ruth Jones is an artist, independent curator and director of artist charity and studios The Old Waterworks in Southend-on-Sea. In 2023 Jones graduated from UEL with a professional doctorate in Fine Art. In 2022 she was awarded a British Council Venice Fellowship at the Venice Biennale, a residency with Metal Southend and commissioned for a new sound piece by Focal Point Gallery in 2021.

An aspect of her subject matter is visual language itself, its inherent cultural values, and the contexts upon which it depends.     Originally a teacher of dyslexic children, I have recently completed an MA in Fashion Textile Practices at Huddersfield University. I have always been a creative and in 2017 finally took the plunge and did an Art & Design Foundation Diploma which started a love of light and installations.

    Julie lives in the beautiful historic village of Bonsall on the edge of the peak district and works with mixed media incorporating paint, collage and textiles. Working in sketch books influences her work, nature, birds, flowers, iconic images and interior scenes all feature in her work. Layering substrates in her chosen media and themes, Julies work is often surreal and semi abstract
