'Codependence': An exhibition focusing on the Historical and Cultural relationship between The USA and UK. Taking place from July 2026 to run alongside the national festivities to commemorate the 250th (Semiquincentennial) anniversary of American Independence from Britain.

I'm an independent Artist (and sometimes Curator) based in the south east of England.

This project comes on the back of a previous collaboration with M Galleries in New Jersey and a London venue between 2020-2002, featuring 20 artists, 10 from each country, that collaborated - in pairs - in response to their personal experiences and observations of the seismic upheavals of the 2020 Covid pandemic.

'Codependence' plans to  shine a light on how America and Britain have developed and responded to each other over the past 250 years, how we’re both “independent “, but also how we are also entwined in an ongoing relationship and share the same language.

How we have stereotypical views and opinions of each other, and how we have shared common human experiences.

This exhibition plans to document  our ongoing dialogue from a variety of viewpoints  and will provide a further opportunity for artists to create and develop international and  cultural links,

We have an exhibition slot booked in the USA for July 2026 and the M Galleries Director will be selecting the 10 US participants.

We have some artists in place at this end, but we are using this open call to select the rest of our cohort.

This is very much a developing project and, due to the length of the lead time, the idea is to get all of our participants in place by the end of 2024 as the plan is for artists to create new works for the show, and for us to bond collectively if possible.

As a result the work and information  you submit here will be more to get an idea of the artists we would like to work with.

As we experienced, through previous collaboration with M Galleries, there is a possibility that this show will travel on to other venues in the USA, and possibly come back to London too.

Myself and the rest of the core group are based in London/South East and we are especially interested in hearing from artists within that catchment area.

However artists /work from elsewhere that  potentially fits the project are welcome to apply too.

There will be a size restriction to the works (to be worked out) and costs to transfer works to and from the USA to the UK.

Any costs will be shared equally between the participants.

For any further clarification. it is recommended you refer to the FAQ section.
