DREDGE - a collective exhibition at The Gate Art Space, Gloucester Samson Arts Gloucester is looking for artworks to be involved in the upcoming exhibition DREDGE, being exhibited at The Gate Art Space, Westgate Street, Gloucester. DREDGE is fishing for artists describing their connection to Gloucestershire and its local aquatic life, and any feelings of loss or deficit. Eco friendly or recycled works desirable.

DREDGE - a collective exhibition at The Gate Art Space, Gloucester

DREDGE will run from 8th December to 13th December (10 am to 4 pm). Private view 7th December 5 pm to 8 pm.

Artists may submit 2 to 3 pieces for consideration.

Free to apply, with accepted artists paying £10 to cover administration fees.

The exhibition will be promoted online and through Gloucestershire media outlets.

Submissions close at midnight on Saturday 7th November 2026.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please send up to 2 images of each artwork, and a short statement on how the works relate to the theme.

Please be aware we only have a limited capacity to accept larger works, and smaller works are much more likely to be successful.

Please give us the completed size of your work including any frames or mounts, and how the work will need to be exhibited.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Artist must be local to Gloucestershire. No prior art experience necessary.

Desirable that the artist is able to help install on the 7th December.

Visual media, photography, videography, sculpture, and installation are all accepted.

Should the artist apply with digital art or videography, they must consider their own equipment to display this.

This is to be discussed with the curator, should the artist be successful.

Artworks may not be larger than 1000mm x 1000mm x 800mm.

Wall hung artworks must have D rings attached for hanging and cannot weigh over 8kg due to the structure of the building.

All work must arrive ready to display.

If you wish to submit any form of print, it will be your responsibility to print it off and prepare it for exhibition before delivering it to us.

Artwork cannot include any defamatory or discriminatory themes - at the discretion of the curator.

Artist must be able to drop off work at location agreed with curator WC 30th November.

Desirable that the artist be available for opening night 7th December 5 pm to 8 pm.

Artist must be available for at least one 10 am to 1.30 pm or 1.30 pm to 4 pm shift stewarding in the gallery (The Gate Art Space, Gloucester), details to be discussed with the curator should the applicant be successful.

Work can be sold, should the artist require this. 

Prices must be listed in the initial application. 

No commission is taken upon sale.

Artists can organise a private sale with any interested buyer at the Artist’s discretion.

The show will be advertised on multiple social avenues, such as The Gate’s Instagram page with over 400 followers, Gloucester Start , Visit Gloucester, as well as having posters placed around Gloucester and surrounding areas.

The Gate at 21 Westgate Street, Gloucester is a space with possibilities of use beyond the display of finished artworks (gallery) including storytelling, music, poetry, artist residencies and workshops.

ABOUT SAMSON ARTS GLOUCESTER

Samson Arts Gloucester is programme of arts activities within Gloucester, run by local artist and GCA member LJ Ellam.

LJ Ellam is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Gloucester.

Using tongue in cheek imagery to explore the grief around their physical body; making things messy and mocking of their ego and their relationships. The work falls somewhere on the spectrum of masochistic caricature and deadpan-humoured fetishism, craving to be visible.

A sadist of art, overly cynical and sometimes an embarrassment, making the reality of their suffering to be apparent and more importantly compulsive to watch.

They specialise in no specific medium, using sculpture, projection, installation and video, as well as 2D methods. They aim for what feels authentic, what looks stupid and what is ultimately uncalled for, pushing the boundaries of what they can get away with.
