Description:

The most powerful forces shaping our lives are often the least visible.

Through the work of predominantly women artists from diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds,

The exhibition explores hidden histories, overlooked knowledge and systems that lie beneath the surface of everyday experience, determining how we navigate our lives.

‘UNSEEN – Seeing Differently’ brings together artists, many of whom come from communities that have historically been underrepresented within the art world, whose practices illuminate what is hidden, overlooked, erased, or deliberately obscured.

Working across a range of media, installation, photography, painting, film, sculpture, performance and conceptual practice, the artists reveal hidden networks of connection: between personal memory and collective history, migration and belonging, ecological change and human experience, power and resistance.

Rather than focusing solely on what has been excluded, the exhibition uncovers alternative ways of seeing and understanding the world, bringing into view narratives, knowledge and relationships that have long existed beyond dominant histories.

The artists challenge those prevailing narratives not by amplifying the loudest voices, but by drawing attention to the complexities which lie beneath them.

United by an interest in poetic enquiry as much as political engagement, the artists do not simply expose what has been overlooked; they invite audiences to recognise new forms of connection, resilience and imagination.

Together, their works suggest that what remains unseen is not absent, but waiting to be discovered, reinterpreted and shared.

Presented during the 2026 Venice Biennale and in dialogue with its theme, In Minor Keys, the exhibition embraces the idea that transformation often begins not with grand declarations but with quieter acts of observation, resistance and revelation.

These works invite us to listen differently: to attend to subtle histories, other perspectives, hidden relationships and alternative ways of understanding the world.
