We are a small arts trust in Cambridge that hold a collection of prints, ceramics, textiles and private press books and are seeking voluntary help with our online catalogue.

Before the pandemic, we had a volunteer helping us with the cataloguing of our collection, you can see their successful work here: https://www.artworkarchive.com/profile/keate-family-arts-trust

As you will see the collection encompasses a small but significant collection of mid C20 prints by some notable artists and other works of interest. The Trust is working towards facilitating access for educational purposes and housing a small gallery.

We are now looking for a new volunteer, or possibly a small team, that would enjoy completing the cataloguing task, which we would estimate is about one third through. Good photography skills are needed along with a working knowledge of print and other artistic techniques. The primary task will be to get the entirety of the collection on the Artwork Archive.

If there is interest afterwards, the collection will need valuing and we are hoping to set up a selling facility for local artist's work.

We are looking to build a long-term relationship with volunteers leading to membership of the Trust and involvement in its future direction.

The collection is housed in a modest domestic property close to Midsummer Common. There is a 'guardian' in residence at the property, but they work on weekdays, so it is likely that the volunteer will be working alone. Because of this we will need two good character references.

The property is 'cottage' like and has very narrow steep stairs.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
We envisage a local (Cambridge) person, but it is possible to stay at the property, so people from further afield may apply. There will be a small charge to stay overnight. The stairs in the property are steep and narrow, we are really sorry but this will exclude people with significant mobility issues. Other than that, we look forward to receiving interest from a diversity of people with the necessary skills.
When is the deadline?
The end of November, but we'd like it if people applied earlier.
How much does it cost?
Nothing, unless you need to stay over then there will be a small negotiable payment.
Are there payments to artists?
No
Does the location have disabled access?
No, sorry!
Do I need to be present?
Yes, this work cannot be done remotely.
How do you decide on proposals?
We will invite successful applicants to visit and have a chat. If volunteers are able to work collaboratively, than there could be more than one successful applicant.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
We will arrange for access at agreed times.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
An interest in C20 prints, some experience in cataloguing or archiving, or possibly just a strong desire to learn.
What are the selection criteria?
Do we get along? Are we happy to entrust our collection with you? Can we feel confident that we can leave you working in our house unsupervised? Would you like to be part of the arts trust? Do you have interesting ideas?
