Deadline: 25/10/2025City: Redcar | Region: North Yorkshire | Country: United Kingdom | James Beighton
Redcar Palace is delighted to present ‘“Into the Spirit”: our end of year exhibition that brings to life our fascination with the world of spirits, ghosts, ghouls, folk myths and the unexplained. From bumps in the night to shadowy figures spotted from the corner of your eye, this exhibition will celebrate the phenomenon of otherworldliness, something that has intrigued humanity across history and different cultures.
It's not just witch-ful thinking, we want your work!
So fasten your sheet-belts, and get ready to show us your bat-to-the-bone art.
Here’s how you can get involved!
There is no submission fee to enter; the work just needs to be about the theme 'Into the Spirit'.
We will review all submissions and accept all those that follow this theme, however, we will not accept any works that we deem offensive or contain profanities. This is a family-friendly show.
Deliver your work to us at Redcar Palace by Friday, the 17th October to be featured on our open call wall alongside other spooky pieces.
This open call ends on Friday the 17th October, all work must be delivered to us by the 24th AT THE LATEST.
Otherwise, we cannot guarantee we will be able to hang your work.
These works could be painting, collage, or sculpture - as long as it's on theme, we want it!
Please attach images of your work via the submission form here.
A few things to remember:
Works can be for sale, and we would take 25% on all sales.
Artists are responsible for delivering and collecting all works.
We will accept works by post, but we will not be able to send works back; they will need to be collected after the show ends on the 24th of December.
Please note if works are not collected within 3 months of the end date we reserve the right to dispose of the work as we see fit.
We will only accept 2d works up to A2 size (42 x 60cm) or, for sculptural works, 50cm².
Here's some more information about our exhibition
Paying tribute to the history of our building as a former theatre, 'Into the Spirit' aims to recapture the otherworldly history of the site, from moonlit seances to revive the past, to the awe-inspiring magic shows that would've had its audience (dead or alive) befuddled by uncanny predictions and sleight of hand.
As with previous exhibitions, we will feature invited artists alongside those who have responded to our themed open call (that's you!), covering themes including tarot cards, divination, astrology, plant magick, witchcraft, folklore, and cryptids.
If you would like to showcase your weird and wonderful work as part of this open call, follow us on social media @redcarpalace, submit to us through CuratorSpace or pop into the gallery to find out more. Invited artists include Madeleine Famurewa, who will create a new sculpture that explores mythology within her own family and matriarchal fairy tales through the lens of the Loftus Saxon Princess, and Ben Sadler, whose unique approach to painting often includes ghostly presences, skeletal figures and otherwise uncanny imagery.
A programme of workshops and activities will run alongside the exhibition, with more details to be released through our social media accounts nearer the time.
There will also be the opportunity for you to come along and share your own stories of ghostly goings-on through our Office of Paranormal Investigation.
Come and join us at Redcar Palace to get 'Into the Spirit'!
