The SketchUp Residency is a project created and curated by artists Sid and Jim where participating artists are asked to use 3D modelling software 'Google SketchUp' for the duration of their term.

The SketchUp Residency is a project created and curated by artists Sid and Jim. Participating artists are asked to use 3D modelling software 'SketchUp' for the duration of their term. Artists might want to consider the location, medium, the SketchUp marketplace and of course, their own practice when forming concepts for their work; they are allowed to use any of the features that SketchUp offers. The SketchUp Projects exist within the same domain as the residency and operates alongside it and is where artists can submit proposals for anything SketchUp related and produce one off works or series for the site. Anything that can be featured on the website will be considered; anything from still images, to films, to 3D models.

The manner in which the residency and projects manifest is entirely up to the artist! We will try to facilitate anything that the selected artist(s) believes to be appropriate or necessary for the conceptual structure of the work they make. This could be anything from a navigable 3D model for the SketchUp website, to an embedded animation of the work, to a downloadable VR model. Please be inventive and don’t feel limited by these suggestions!

Artists must consider the exhibition ‘space’ to be online; visitors will be have the ability to explore the work online, as well as download it themselves and even make it compatible with basic VR equipment such as Google Cardboard.

RESIDENCY - For the residency, selected applicants are asked to publish their research via The SketchUp Residency Instagram account for 3 weeks prior to their model going live on the site. Posts can be made, found, stolen etc. and should be done at least twice a day. At the end of the residency the 3D model will be the homepage of the website and then moved into the archive after their term.

PROJECTS - For the projects, artists can submit proposals for anything SketchUp related and produce new one off works or series for the site. Anything that can be featured on the website will be considered, from still images, to films, to 3D models.

SketchUp is a free 3D modelling program for a wide range of drawing applications such as architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, civil and mechanical engineering, film, and video game design.
