Open Exhibition, Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week
Deadline: 12/06/2026City: Llanfairfechan, Conwy | Region: Conwy | Country: United Kingdom | Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week
INAUGURAL EXHIBITION, NORTH WALES ARTS FESTIVAL The Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week exhibition is part of a major new arts festival in North Wales taking place this August. The week will be a celebrations of all creative arts. The exhibition is open to artists living or working in North Wales. We welcome all 2d works. The arts week will run from August 8 to August 16. The exhibition will be on the final week of the festival and will take place alongside an affordable art fair, and demonstrations of portrait painting and of linocut printing by eminent North Wales artists.
The exhibition will take place across the final weekend (August 15-16) of Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week, a week celebrating all the creative arts, including visual arts, literature, music, dance, film, photography, and crafts.
It will be held at the Llanfairfechan Community Centre, the main hub for the week's activities, which will include workshops, demonstrations, performances, talks, an art trail, and an "open to all comers" al fresco painting day.
Other events are being staged at the library and at venues around the town.
Entries for the exhibition are invited from any artist living or working in North Wales,
Wythnos Gelf Llanfairfechan Art Week is generating considerable interest across the region. It is being widely publicised and, as we approach the week, this will intensify.
We are expecting considerable interest from residents and tourists with a wide range of events to attract people to this beautiful coastal town throughout the week, and especially for the final weekend and the exhibition.
On this final weekend, an affordable art fair will attract art lovers and will be staged alongside the exhibition, giving artists a chance to engage directly with the public and to offer other work for sale.
On Saturday, two eminent North Wales artists, both past presidents of the Royal Cambrian Academy, will be sharing their expertise in the hall:
- Jeremy Yates, RCA, (https://rcaconwy.org/members/jeremy-yates-vprca) will be giving a demonstration of portrait painting, giving the public a chance to observe and ask questions.
- Ann Lewis RCA (https://rcaconwy.org/members/ann-lewis) will be demonstrating linocutting and giving members of the public the chance to "pull a print" themselves from a linocut that she has created especially for the event.
This is the first time that we have staged this bilingual event, and it is already being described as a mini Eisteddfod.
If it is the success that we have every reason to believe that it will be, it will become an annual event that will grow and grow, giving artists in the region an opportunity to show their work to the growing number of tourists visiting the area.
Llanfairfechan is a beautiful seaside town that extends up into the Carneddau mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia).
The organisers of the week are the town clerk, who has extensive experience in organising public events, and a former journalist and art historian, now a practising artist.
