Open Call | THE PLANT PART Issue 38 Odysseys
THE PLANTPART is China’s first magazine dedicated to plant art. Our editorial team is based in Shanghai.
We currently have around 20,000 readers and followers across all platforms (7,500 on WeChat, 4,000 on rednote), and we are actively collaborating with artists from around the world who focus on plants and nature.
Recently, we have also launched our Instagram account.
In the past, we have worked with creators from Chinese-speaking regions such as Singapore and Malaysia, but we aim to go further—showcasing outstanding Chinese artists to the world while introducing exceptional young international artists to Chinese audiences.
Our main readers are aged 25–35, primarily working as contemporary artists (including painters, ceramic artists, and digital artists), florists, and practitioners of ikebana.
Call for Collaboration: Issue 38 - Odysseys
This special issue is inspired by our contemplation of plant migration: while the parent plant remains rooted, its seeds and fruits embark on journeys into the unknown.
Their path lacks a clear destination or direction; all they can do is continually adapt and recalibrate—a process profoundly resonant with human growth.
Within this framework, we have structured the issue into three chapters:
Drift / Seasonal Return / Luggage
- Drift represents undirected movement.
- Seasonal Return signifies cyclical pauses and reflection.
- Luggage encompasses the objects that accompany us throughout these journeys.
- We are seeking artists whose work engages with these themes to join us in developing this editorial project.
- We are eager to feature your artistic reflections on migration.
Selected works will be published in our print edition and promoted across our digital platforms (WeChat, Rednote, Instagram).
As our primary audience and influence are within Mainland China, this collaboration presents a valuable opportunity for emerging artists looking to expand their presence in this region.
This is an open call with no submission fees.
For works in other media (e.g., sculpture, installation, performance), applicants must be able to provide high-quality documentary photos stills suitable for print and digital publication.
