How can one form a connection between words and visuals? The Stable Gallery is seeking 3 artists for a group show in a response to the line from Thomas Hardy’s poem 'To Be Forgotten' : "They count as quite forgot;"

Follow Hardy’s approach of poetry by breaking from convention. What do you imagine? How do you relate to his words?

This exhibition will take place in June 2021. The Stable Gallery is located in West Meon, Hampshire.

Groups of 3 maximum or solo artists are welcome to apply.

All art forms are accepted including drawing, painting, 3D, digital, installation, etc.

There are plugs and good lighting in the gallery but there is no wifi available.

Applications are open to artists in the UK. You will need to arrange your own transport for artwork to and from this location. We do not accept responsibility for any damage during transit.

The Stable Gallery will curate the exhibition.

The Stable Gallery is a beautiful old building situated in the pretty village of West Meon in the South Downs. The gallery will be open from April until August. On application you will be sent images of the building and the renovated inside space.

How to apply:

Please send your name, email and phone number.

Send in a proposal no longer than 100-200 words with your aims for the artwork you would like to make for the show.

5 good quality images of your existing work in jpg format maximum 4MB

Please send links to your website or creative social media pages if you have them.

An artist statement, about you and your practice, 200 words maximum.

For successful candidates:

The chosen artworks will be for sale 75% will go to the artist and 25% will go to the gallery if sold.

The gallery has a mailing list and social media pages, which will be used to publicise the event.

Dates:

Closed for applications: 15/03/21

Successful applicants will be informed: 22/03/21

Work to be brought to the gallery: 11/06/21

Dates of exhibition: 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th, 27th June.

How much does it cost?
Submission is free. If the artists work is sold 25% commission goes to the gallery. Artists are expected to pay and arrange the transportation of the artwork to and from the gallery.
Are there payments to artists?
The artists will receive 75% of the total cost of the artwork if it is sold.
Is there a private view / opening?
This will be decided closer to the time depending on social distancing rules.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
Weekdays: 2pm-6pm
Weekends: 12pm-4pm
Does the location have disabled access?
Everything is ground level but the terrain includes pebbles, grass and cobbled stable blocks.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
The gallery has an Instagram, Facebook page and mailing list. Other local businesses will receive flyers. The event will also be posted here on Curator Space.
Do I need to be present?
You do not need to be present at the exhibition but you will need to be able to transport the artwork to and from the gallery on the allocated dates.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
The gallery will contact you via email to discuss further details of the exhibition.
