Interested in having your art published, printed, and posted directly to your door? Exhibit alongside a diverse network of established and emerging artists in a collection underpinned by the theme of Ecology. All art in any medium related to this theme is welcome to feature in the fifth installation of this series!

Wiro Mag is a paperbound gallery space designed to capture art practice in motion, seeking to connect emerging and established artists with broader audiences, gain reputable and tangible exposure, and drive intimate conversations with creative individuals or collectives.

Wiro Mag: Ecology is a celebration of how art can be used as a tool to incorporate, celebrate, and symbolise elements of nature and ecology.

This could be art that physically incorporates natural objects or materials, visually or metaphorically showcases the natural world, or derives inspiration from environmental themes.

A humanlike figurine hunches over a tattered workbench, assembling flowers, fungi, and pinecones. Their compositions are directly sourced from salvaged clay, moss, stones, and wood.

Through this sculpture, we are reminded that we are not only responsible for shaping and influencing nature's sprawl, but we are also an intrinsic part of it.

A ceramic box of various blue hues is sewn together with cotton fibres interweaving predetermined holes along each edge.

Delicate patterns encompass its surface, completely sealing it through determined craftsmanship.

We understand that through this work, the aesthetic and structural qualities of the box are an integral part of our desire to see inside, and that the final objective of revealing its content falls second to appreciating its beauty.

An atlas of coarse, sharp textures embosses and etches its fingerprint across antique paper, itself a miracle.

Each line, form, and interaction between them illusion an almost geographic quality, tricking the eye into seeing a meticulously planned map.

We appreciate the levels of fieldwork, gathering, and printing on the go, and contemplate how our species can appropriate the natural world to better understand and share its geography.

The flicker of light across a coursing river is as unpredictable as nature itself; a human performer encroaches on the frame, challenging the otherwise peaceful scene.

Elements of the human form accompany the cinematic shot, as the subject becomes enchanted with ancient wisdom and ritual, allowing their body to move freely and without remorse.

This performance combines the sanctity of human culture and natural scenes to remind us of how detached we have become from the natural world and our advanced instincts.

Through this performance piece, it is instilled that we must embrace our elusive past.

These are just some of the ways in which the theme of ecology could be captured in the work you submit.

Wiro Mag invites you to challenge these criteria and push the boundaries of how these ideas can be depicted or expressed through art practice.

Featured artists will receive:

1. A copy of the publication packaged and sent to their address in biodegradable packaging.
2. A double-page spread with a professionally edited bio and project-specific Q&A, alongside images of the submitted work and further relevant information to guide the reader to learn more about you.

About the publication

• Hand-designed and curated page by page.
• Wiro bound and digitally printed on heavy, opaque, and high-quality paper for the best visibility and legibility.
• A5 portrait (210 x 148 mm).
• Displayed and circulated at book fairs around the UK in retailers, galleries, and online—putting your work, bio, and contact information in the hands of thousands of individuals every year, such as curators, enthusiasts, event organisers, and like-minded artists.
• Featured on su4ip.cargo.site under publications, as well as via the SU4IP Instagram. (Here, you will also find all of the installations of the predecessor to Wiro Mag, Artist Book by SU4IP, as well as other SU4IP publications.)
• All art showcased in the publication is the property of each respective artist involved. Participating in this project simply allows me the right to curate it in this format.

My Instagram, @lyndonwatkinson, where I promote my art practice, publications, and the participants in them, has 584 followers, accruing 1821 views in the last 30 days, reaching 398 accounts, 29% of which are non-followers.

Costs

It is free to submit to this opportunity.

If you are successful, you will be asked to pay a fee of £35 to cover the design, printing, packaging, and postage of a copy of the publication to be sent to you, as well as the promotion and distribution to retailers, galleries, book fairs, and online.

Selection Criteria

All artists who apply to these opportunities undergo a selection process based on relevance to the theme, demonstration of enthusiasm towards their work, and quality of the submission (e.g., photo quality, detail/richness of writing.)
