Are you interested in having your art published, printed, and posted directly to your door? Exhibit alongside a diverse network of established and emerging artists in a collection underpinned by the theme of Ghosts. All art in any medium related to this theme is welcome to feature in the seventh installation of this series!

Wiro Mag is a paperbound gallery space designed to capture art practice in motion, seeking to connect emerging and established artists with broader audiences, gain reputable and tangible exposure, and drive intimate conversations with creative individuals or collectives.

Wiro Mag: Ghosts is an exploration of how supernatural, otherworldly, or eerie ideas can be represented through art practice.

This could be through the manipulation of mediums to create a ghostly effect, the use of haunting imagery to communicate an idea, or the arrangement of compositions to convey an unfamiliar sense of being.

A cryptic script of unintelligible texts is scrawled into a musty, aged paper; the crimson red ink appears to almost wound the paper as feelings of terror and urgency are evoked through its aggressive strokes.

Through this work, we are reminded of how the use of marks, materials, and intensities shape our understanding better than any word ever could.

The only glimpse of light across an isolated black canvas are minute reflections across the carefully applied horizontal brushstrokes that coat its surface.

On closer inspection, a faint silhouette of the face reveals itself with only the slightest contrast amongst seemingly infinite darkness.

As each deformed facial feature is deciphered, the more horror is instilled in the viewer.

Through this work, we are reminded of how even in complete isolation, just the slightest hints of others can make us feel as though we are not alone.

The silhouettes cast by a photographic archive of forgotten signage, billboards, and facades evoke eroded colours, graphics, and tropes of times gone by.

Some examples show broken remains and artefacts of the signs themselves; others cast vacant shadows or indentations, leaving a permanent impression on the surface long after it has ceased to exist.

We are reminded, through this archive, of how ghosts exist among us in the form of ideas, objects, or ambitions that are long forgotten.

These are just some of the ways in which the theme of Ghosts could be captured in the work you submit. Wiro Mag invites you to challenge these criteria and push the boundaries of how these ideas can be depicted or expressed through art practice.

Featured artists will receive:

  1. A copy of the publication packaged and sent to their address in biodegradable packaging.
  2. A double-page spread with a professionally edited bio and project-specific Q&A, alongside images of the submitted work and further relevant information to guide the reader to learn more about you.
