Open Call for artists to propose work for WRETCHED OF THE SCREEN, an online exhibition and physical exhibition at MAS, Oxford, UK.

WRETCHED OF THE SCREEN OPEN CALL

Digital Artist Residency & MAS present… An EMBASSY for The Wrong 2019/2020.

Open Call for artists to propose work for WRETCHED OF THE SCREEN, an online exhibition and physical exhibition at MAS, Oxford, UK.

WRETCHED OF THE SCREEN takes its name from Hito Steyerl’s collection of essays from 2013. Throughout the book is an assessment of socio-cultural notions of image production and dependence on screen-based media. The Wrong Embassy WRETCHED OF THE SCREEN will bring together a collection of artists works which examine ‘the screen’ as a medium. Focusing on its materiality and mediation throughout society. The online pavilion will display works meant for online dissemination. This will be followed by an IRL exhibition as a physical counterpart to the online exhibition.

• 12 artists

• Oxford, UK.

• MAS (Magdalen Art Space) | Physical exhibition will run from 14th – 29th Feb 2020.

DAR is looking for artists proposals which respond to issues such as:

o screen materiality

o the poor image

o ocularcentrism

o spiritual projection/ digital spirituality

Artists would need to communicate clearly how these works would be appropriate for DAR’s online context and culminate in a physical exhibition at Magdalen Art Space. The residencies are open to artists working in any discipline and/or medium, and from anywhere in the world. DAR is particularly interested in proposals from artists working with digital practices that can be realised in a physical exhibition at MAS. We are interested in artists who can make use of DAR’s 24/7 access and multimedia facilities to create interactive, online installations and features such as live streaming.
