Derby based artist Nicki Dennett creates multi-layered, mixed media prints inspired by life around her. Nicki’s continual observation of her environment and an appreciation of all aspects of existence inspire her work. Research and development of materials are key to my work and continually filling sketchbooks are often the idea basis for my handmade prints.

My photographic practice is focused on the idea of ambiguity and the slippage between the photograph and truth, surface and meaning. Starting from a conceptual engagement with research, my practice often entails carefully constructed images that explore recurring themes of mythologising, performance, human relations, human endeavour and philosophy.

My practice sits at the intersection of science and philosophy, sometimes a considered enquiry, often due to my ASHD subject to disruptive but helpful interjections. I work in installation, digital imaging and video, with paper and packaging materials and often incorporating my lifelong fascination with code. I am strongly interested in collaboration, with other artists and with science teams
