Rachel is a multi-disciplinary artist working across the mediums of photographic processes, sound recording and performance. Her practice explores our perceptions of sound within environments and how that can be expressed in a visual context. She explores micro level sounds, the physical and material aspects of the body and environment and resonance within analogue instruments.

My work investigates the scope of figurative painting based on archived photographs in terms of its capacity to represent a created and manipulated history of women's narratives. Of interest is the idea that in relation to perception and subjectivity the act of creating and experiencing paintings and the act of creating and consuming history utilise comparable methodologies and strategies.

This body of work 'Aco Series' is concerned with the ‘found object’ through a macro focus into painting materials; reinventing found objects (Slates, Lime, Chalk) into painting materials through a process of alchemy.

I am a textile artist and tutor working from my home in North Yorkshire. On completing a degree in textiles from Winchester school of Art in 1994, I worked as a designer for a number of years before becoming a teacher. After years of inspiring art in the classroom, I returned to my first love of textiles and I now exhibit my own work in galleries, as well as teaching felt making workshops.

I am an artist whose work always starts with a piece of cloth. I make art textiles that are reductive, quiet, simple and contemplative. This has meant restricting my tools, my media, my palette and my process – simplify, simplify, simplify. I use raw earth pigments for my landscape-inspired work and antique linen or hemp for my intensively hand stitched work.
