painting/filmmaking/installation, former journalist, later a BAFTA winner cinematographer with a long career in visual storytelling. After years of working in London — and earlier, covering war zones (‘80s) as a video reporter before running my own press agency (‘90s) — I then moved to Birmingham to step away from conventional industry paths. My focus now is on artist-led, immersive practices.

My mixed-media practice is influenced by science and often draws inspiration from my Dutch/Brazilian heritage. It aims to encourage the viewer to question knowledge and value systems by teasing their cognitive senses. Since graduating from Goldsmiths in 2004 I have exhibited in galleries, museums and alternative venues across the UK and done residencies in France, Holland and Finland.

I’m a textile artist using the ancient craft of feltmaking and other fabrics to create unique, organic designs. I’m inspired by the natural world, by subverting traditional forms and putting my own ideas into practice. I think my insight into the human psyche through my experience as a psychotherapist is also something that I bring into my work.

I create interdisciplinary works at the intersection of art, science, and ecology. Focusing on atmosphere, breath, weather, and eco-justice, my practice uses media arts and digital storytelling to translate research into sensory, participatory forms. Through collaboration and creative inquiry, I seek to open new ways of experiencing and responding to environmental change.
