    I graduated from the Royal college of Art 2001. As an artist I am interested in the fugitive relationship between the sublime, the abject, and contemporary perceptions of beauty. I am interested in exploring form and material structure to expand the boundaries, physical presence , and significance of painting, and in this context its potency as a vehicle for metaphor and ideas.

    I am a painter who is interested in people, places, objects and groups in society. My role as a teacher informs my work and I often respond to my immediate environment. Painting offers a special opportunity to combine imagery, technique and art historical references to tell stories and suggest ideas. The act of looking, drawing and the physical mixing and application of colour are important to me.

    I have been doing abstract art since the beginning of 2023, as a recovering alcoholic (sober for over 10 years now) I use my art as a way of expressing my innermost feelings without having to speak a single word about them. I see my paintings as a screenshot of my soul at that particular moment in time.

    I am a charcoal pencil artist specialising in landscapes, wildlife and gothic illustration. Much of my work is commission based and has included book covers, album art and tattoos.     Following my graduation from a Fine Art Degree in 1993, I qualified as an art teacher, teaching art for over twenty-five years in various settings, including mainstream schools and referral units for children excluded from school. My understanding of art and how students can be encouraged to create has enlightened, inspired and enriched my understanding of the practice and process of making art.
