    My name is Gemma Yates and I'm a painter from the UK. I love to paint natural forms such as flowers, trees, figures and thriving landscapes.     As a studio-based painter I rely on photographic images. These are often those found on social media or then internet. As a gay man I am also interested in exploring the multiplicity of images and ideals we are presented with and redefining the idea of masculinity. My work explores narrative, colour, line, composition, and mark-making to evoke an emotion or develop the narrative within an image.

    I am a textile artist using machine embroidery as my main medium. I work in my studio in Sheffield called 'Stitched Up and Fleeced'. I trained at Bolton Art College Foundation Course 1971-2 , Loughborough College of Art and Design Degree in Stitched Textiles 1975, PGCE Art and Design at Leicester 1976, Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen since 1996 and awarded a Fellowship in 2013.
