    I started working with black communities in the beginning because I felt that when members of the black community were engaged in my work, I could claim the title of visual artist. I see my work as an intervention into spaces of intergenerational wealth created by triangular trade. I also see the work as claiming and occupying space that is raced white for people of colour.

    Graduating in 1987 from Maidstone College of Art, with a Fine Arts BA (hons) degree I entered the world of teaching after gaining a PGCE at Bretton hall.     I am a multi-media artist based in Yorkshire working in sculpture, performance, photography, video, printmaking and artist’s books. Much of my work is inspired by and takes place in, the landscape around me. Often I am the only audience for my on-site installations, works translated into artist’s books and digitally printed images, crossing the boundary between documentary and primary artwork.

    Yimou Huang’s practice-based PhD from Dundee University explores the divergent influences of Chinese Taoism and Western Eco-Feminist thought on contemporary global art. It centers on the material aspects of dynamic forces, such as gravity, wind, and erosion. Yimou is particularly interested in transformational processes and their relation to traditional Chinese views on matter (stone, clay, wood)

    Since my training at Edinburgh College of Art I have been inspired by nature. My mission explores the emotional symbolism of my subject matter and seeks to distil the image to enhance this. I am a slow meditative painter. This process puts me in touch with the healing spirit I inherited from the medics in my family.     British Multimedia Artist, originally from Manchester now based in the North East. His art lives in several private collections across the world. In 2025, he won the Collectors' Art Prize - Legends of Our Time Award. In 2020, he won best in show for the International Art Folio 2020 Annual award. In 2019, he was shortlisted for the Refresh Art Prize 2019.
