    I am a Bradford based Chinese artist, a graduate of Yunnan Arts University in Kunming where I also qualified as a teacher. Although my personal preference is for abstract painting in oils, after taking up residence in The UK, I further developed my skills as a portrait painter. More recently, I was inspired to create landscapes after securing temporary studio space in Bradford city centre.

    I am a teacher of Geography and until a few years ago I never thought I had a creative bone in my body. I then discovered wood turning and the joy of shaping wood as if it was clay. I have rapidly moved away from traditional wood turning and like to use a variety of non-traditional wood and different materials that enhance the wood. I like form and shape inspired by nature.

    During total isolation, in lockdown, I painted over a 164 artworks up to date. I also took up meditation which allowed my imagination to flow again. It was cathartic and eased the trauma from what was happening in the outside world. Life is returning back to what was before, but with a greater sense of appreciating family and friends, united.

    I am a graduate professional artist with BA Fine Art First Class Honours 2006. I'm inspired by the landscape and create work that abstracts what I see and experience. Often working en plein air I create dynamic & colourful compositions. I'm inspired by abstract expressionism with rapid expressive mark making & striking colours of Fauvism.     Through my work I want to explore the mythological representation of women and how stories have been influenced and reengineered by patriarchy. How women have been written out of folklore and how stories have been changed to fit in with this ideology.

    I've been working in education as a technician in various guises for over ten years. This has given me a wealth of knowledge and encounters that crosses specialist subject areas and allows me to bring in processes from different specialism into my art practice. I am currently undertaking my Masters in History of Design run jointly by the RCA and V&A.
