    I am a UK based, mixed media artist working primarily in encaustic. Alongside my art practice, I promote and educate about this 2500 year old technique, determined that this ancient medium experience a resurgence in the UK as it has in the USA. My process involves building up layers of encaustic paint (molten beeswax, tree sap and pigment) on wood, adding fire to fuse (bond) the layers together.

    I work in the medium of film/video and photography. I studied photography before going on to study fine art at Leeds where I specialised in video art.     My ceramic practice explores the poetics of stillness at the threshold between vessel and sculpture. I use local stoneware, contrasting structural precision with unique matte glazes that highlight the clay's raw character. My work emphasizes the physical history of its creation. Stocked at Kettle's Yard museum shop and other galleries, I have also held a solo exhibition at Churchill College.

    Working with clay has always been my passion and escape. I graduated with a BEd Hons majoring in art and ceramics and taught for many years. Following early retirement I work in my studio in Hexham, Northumberland where I make small scale ceramic sculpture based on my immediate environment and on my relationships with landscape and within family.
