My work touches on themes of hope and loss, memory and identity. In the work that I am currently making I have explored water, landscape mythology and the body. I believe that my mixed heritage has been a rich source for material to work with, though at times it has also created numerous questions within me about my identity, sense of belonging and place in the world.

IJE (pronounced eejay) I am a mixed practice artist: I am a writer, a poet, an explorer, a painter, a photographer, a creator, a healer; I am a sculptor, an adventurer, a walker and a runner, a performer, a thinker, a catalyst. I look upwards, I look down upon, I look through and on the face of things; I encounter, touch, feel, remember, imagine, and fabricate. Dip FA 2014; MA FA 2016

I resumed making sculpture in 2014 and have since shown sculpture, audio visual pieces and drawing. I am interested in the experiences of ‘older, new artists’ returning or starting, to make art that takes into account contemporary practices. I make constructions that are material and tangible and whose component forms often have a direct relation to the features of the gallery or site.

My practice crosses performance, sculpture and moving image, inhabiting a flickering state between rational and non-rational realities, to create powerful mash-ups, hybrid half-truths, not-quite-lies. My work is in the Saatchi Collection and was exhibited in ‘Known Unknowns’ at Saatchi Gallery throughout 2018. I have performed at the Tate Modern and at performance festivals in UK and abroad.
