    Darren is a metal sculpture artist originally from Leeds, who designs and makes functional yet prominent sculptures.     My practice specialises in printedTextiles weave and mixed media art. I currently work as a SEN TA, this is a challenging and rewarding role. I had created fun workshops for the children to participate and learn. Geliplate, weaving printing. I collect items that would normally end up in landfill, ready to experiment and explore new possibilities.

    I graduated from the Royal college of Art 2001. As an artist I am interested in the fugitive relationship between the sublime, the abject, and contemporary perceptions of beauty. I am interested in exploring form and material structure to expand the boundaries, physical presence , and significance of painting, and in this context its potency as a vehicle for metaphor and ideas.

    I make predominantly papier-mâché sculptures. I love its immediacy, expressiveness and physicality. My work often has a performative quality. They are not just sculptures — they’re personalities, each holding part of my own identity, emotions, and fears, reflecting some of my own mental health challenges but also inviting a shared recognition.
